First Nations-led evaluation of the $20M Murray–Darling Water and Environment Research Program (MD-WERP).
The Challenge
Assessing whether a massive flagship research initiative was meeting its commitments to First Nations Outcomes and genuine engagement.
Our Approach
We led a culturally grounded evaluation, ensuring that the voices of Traditional Owners were the primary metric for success. We reviewed research protocols and engagement frameworks against the principles of Indigenous Data Sovereignty.
The Impact
Provided the MDBA with a clear, independent roadmap to improve how First Nations knowledge is integrated into water and environmental research moving forward.
