Today marks the release of the landmark First Nations Clean Energy Strategy, a “national framework to guide investment, influence policy, and support First Nations people to self-determine how they participate in, and benefit from, Australia’s clean energy transition.”
The Strategy is co-sponsored by the Honourable Chris Bowen, Minister for Energy and Climate Change and the Honourable Malarndirri McCarthy, Minister for Indigenous Australians.
This powerful and collaborative Strategy for Indigenous Australians marks a significant step-forwards in self-determination.
The strategy has been underpinned by 3 goals and 24 supporting actions:
- Power First Nations Communities with Clean Energy
- Enable Equitable Partnerships
- Achieve Economic Benefits with First Nations People
Director Emma Garlett outlines the Strategy is a huge win for Australia to have an equitable clean energy transition.
“We have been advocating for First Nations involvement in clean energy for years, to see it come to fruition in public policy is a huge win for all Australians for a just transition. This Strategy is a roadmap to ensure Traditional Owners benefit from projects on their land”
Garlett Group is thrilled about the release of the Strategy and we look forward to continuing to work with our clients to support First Nations inclusion in clean energy.
