We are excited to announce Garlett Group has partnered with Winyama for this year’s National Indigenous Mapping Workshop (IMW). This collaboration marks a significant step forward in advocating for Indigenous Data Sovereignty and advancing education on data usage agreements that are crucial for Indigenous communities.
At the heart of Indigenous land management and data capture are ranger groups, heritage centres, and Prescribed Body Corporates (PBCs). These organisations play a pivotal role in preserving cultural heritage and managing natural resources. The partnership between Garlett Group and Winyama underscores a shared commitment to empower these groups through effective data management practices.
Garlett Group brings a wealth of expertise in Indigenous data sovereignty, ensuring that Indigenous voices and rights are respected in every step of data collection, analysis, and utilisation.
Kass Boladeras, Winyama IMW Australia Program Manager said Garlett Group’s work of amplifying the positive impact of technology within Indigenous communities is commendable and aligns perfectly with the goals of the National IMW.
“We are thrilled to have Garlett Group provide training at our National IMW this year.”
“It’s essential for us to have Indigenous experts in their field at our workshops, and Garlett Group’s commitment to acknowledging Indigenous voices was exactly what captured us when looking for specialists to advocate for Indigenous Data Sovereignty and data usage agreements for Mob. With Ranger Groups, Heritage Centres, and PBCs at the heart of Indigenous land management and data capture, it’s important that we understand and take forward-thinking steps towards our data management.”
“Garlett Group is equipped with the knowledge to share with Mob and amplify their positive impact on the technology sector.” Boladeras said.
We look forward to contributing to the workshop to provide essential training sessions tailored to the needs of Indigenous communities. Together with Winyama, we are committed to fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing and empowerment thrive.
Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this transformative journey towards inclusive and responsible data management practices in Indigenous contexts.
