Meet Our New Communications Specialist

We’re excited to welcome a new team member to the Garlett Group: a sharp, curious, and caring communicator with a strong passion for First Nations affairs and sustainability. Please join us in welcoming our new Communications Specialist, Harrison!

Can you tell us a bit about your career journey so far?
I’m a recent graduate in Journalism and History, I completed my Honours project last year on the Voice to Parliament Referendum. My research focused on media analysis, particularly how land-related issues were covered. It gave me a deeper understanding of the way stories are shaped—and whose voices are heard.

What attracted you to join Garlett Group?
I’m passionate about communicating First Nations affairs and sustainability in the media, and the Garlett Group has built meaningful relationships with key stakeholders in these areas. I believe Garlett Group is already changing how Indigenous voices are represented, and I was really keen to be a part of that work.

What will your role involve, and what are you most excited about?
My role will include managing internal and external communications—things like social media content, press releases, script-writing, copywriting, and media research. I’m especially excited to help grow the Garlett Group’s online presence and social media reach.

What’s one professional achievement you’re really proud of?
Helping organise and run a Q&A event on the Voice to Parliament in October 2023 at the University of Notre Dame. It meant a lot when people said the discussion influenced them to vote YES.

Where did your passion for First Nations affairs come from?
From reading about First Nations history and culture. I want to help shift how these issues are represented in the media.

Who inspires you most?
Historian Clare Wright. Her work and approach to storytelling are a huge inspiration.

What do you hope to achieve at the Garlett Group?
I want to be part of communications projects that amplify Indigenous voices and promote a sustainable future.
