This week is National Reconciliation Week. The theme is Now More Than Ever, which encourages our nation to continue to stand up in solidarity for the justice and rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the face of a tumultuous year which included the failed Voice to Parliament referendum.
We need to uphold and be encouraged by our significant milestones of the past, the 1967 referendum and the Mabo High Court decision, and our allies who continue to walk beside us.
Now More Than Ever, we need to continue the work of our Elders who have come before us, through truth-telling, educating one another and our nation, standing up for injustice, building our relationships through respect, and ending stereotypes and misconceptions. This year, we must continue to take action and strengthen our shared reconciliation journey.
